Hibernate

While the first thing that came to mind is a hibernating bear, my favorite hibernating creatures are toads. Just because I vividly remember watching Animal Planet as a girl and being amazed when they dug down into the snow and dirt and pulled out a sleeping frog. Amazing! Up until then I was fairly certain that bears were an anomaly, the only creatures to sleep through winter besides my brother.

I tried a different technique with the watercolors, using mostly just small circles. Overall I like the look, but I believe it needs some additional work. You can see the image I used for my inspiration.

Ferocious

This is my take on this week's Illustration Friday theme. For some reason little boys instantly popped into my head, and their version of what ferocious is. Mostly just being scary and loud. Like a monster. Obviously though, she is not very pleased. I can imagine her saying something about using your "inside voice."

Here is another quick sketch from a while back, you can see in the top right corner my "Caveman" sketch, I was trying to save space. The funny thing about this is that it isn't supposed to look like Ariel, but it really does resemble her.

Caveman

This is an older sketch I did, but for a quick one I quite like it. Especially the size of his chin & shoulders, or maybe its the hair on his arms, possibly the unibrow? Anyway, enjoy!

Mesmerizing

I decided to get a head start on Illustration Friday. I loved the theme this week too, its one of those words that just tastes good when you say it. Like delicious.

I remember the first time I went to a fair and saw one of those palm reading gypsies. I begged my parents to let me get my fortune, but they said it was just nonsense and they wouldn't waste any money on it. Still, I felt mesmerized by the dark haired women who could tell me my future and was disappointed I didn't get the chance. However, I do make it a tradition to get my tarot card from "Esmeralda" at Disneyland's Penny Arcade whenever I go. So I guess I haven't missed out on that much.

IF - Boundaries

So this is just barely in time for Illustration Friday (tomorrow is a new theme) but at least I got it there in time!

While Billy's hiding spot was clearly outside the boundaries his parents had designated for their game of Hide & Seek, he was certain he would never be found... and the alligators would make sure of it.

IF - Mysterious

I know that I'm a week late on this one, and although I procrastinated finish this, I couldn't go without showing you my "Mysterious" post. It made me think of women but I had good suggestions on what else I could do (Zorro for example) but I kept coming back to women, and then it was just natural for me to think of a mermaid. I know what you're thinking, enough with the mermaids. Sorry, I can't help it. It just wouldn't leave my head. Well, hopefully she is mysterious enough.

Silhouettes

I am trying a new technique and I'm quite liking the results. These pieces are for an illustrated book about Peter Pan & Neverland, so more of these to come:

Lazy Sunday Doodle

Just a quick doodle I did over the weekend. I love how tiny this one is, because the rest of the paper was covered by ny nephew Evan's marker creations.

Mermaids

Mermaids are so fun to draw. Probably one of my favorites, mostly because of their beautiful poses and flowing hair.
